Our skin is the most important organ. it gives us sense of touch, temperature control and protection against infections.

When the skin dries out it becomes rough, scaly and itchy, it loses its ability to function well and infections become more likely.

Therefore a skin care routine must be done especially products formulated for dry skin because it helps to relieve symptoms and improves skin conditions.

Causes
There are many causes of dry skin especially from environmental influence and inappropriate skin care products.

Common causes are,

1. Weather
Cold, heat, wind and dry heated air removes moisture and attacks natural protective barrier of the skin.

Therefore apply moisturizer to protect your skin.

2. Hot showers
Hot showers can contribute to skin dehydration, it strip moisture from the skin.
Always keep the water temperature warm not hot.

3. Hard water
Hard water can prevent moisturizer from being absorbed into the skin especially tap water, it contains a high concentration of minerals like magnesium and calcium.
It aggravates conditions like acnes and rough skin.

4. Soap
There are lots of soaps that can be harsh on our skin moisture balance which can lead to dry skin.

It is important to carefully choose face wash and body wash, than using harsh soaps.

5. Stress
Stress and mental strain affects the hormones, which can upset our body moisture balance and oil production.

Symptoms
Dry skin can occur anywhere in the body, but its common on areas such as hand, feet, shins and the face.

When our skin becomes extremely dry it is prone to sypmtoms such as roughness, scaliness, flakiness and itchiness.

Therefore it can lead to a cracked skin, severe cracking can cause pain and inflammation.

Solutions
* Avoid dry air by spending less time indoor during hot weather.

* Reduce the time spent in hot water by having quick shower than long bath.

* Wear clothes made of cotton.

* Avoid using harsh soaps.

* Drink enough amount of water.

* Use skin care products that improves the skin condition to avoid irritations.
